As September 11 approaches, Muslim organizations and advocates have been communicating with schools and educators about how to support ALL students during this time including Muslim, Arab, South Asian, and Sikh students.

The days leading up to September 11, as well as the days afterward, can be particularly challenging for our children. How schools prepare, how teachers approach classroom conversations, and how they respond to stereotypes or bullying matters.

Sample message schools can share:

As we mark the 25th anniversary of September 11th, we remember the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives that day, and we hold their families, survivors, and first responders in our hearts. We also affirm, as a school community, that the actions of the individuals who carried out this attack do not represent any faith, ethnic or racial group. Hate, bullying, and bigotry of any kind have no place here, and we are committed to a school where every student feels safe, respected, and free from collective blame.

Send the letter to your school.

Enter the school email address or addresses and your first and last name. Click Open Email Draft and your normal email app will open with the recipients, subject, and the educator letter beginning “Dear Educators, School Administrators, and Teachers,”. Your name will be added after “Sincerely,”. The campaign explanation and instructions above are not included in the email. Review the draft, then all you have to do is hit send.
